China's NWEPDI Wins Survey and Engineering bid for 2,000-Megawatt Coal-fired Project in Hami

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (NWEPDI) (Xi'an, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), was awarded the survey and engineering contract for the 2,000-megawatt (MW) coal-fired project of Guodian Hami Energy Development Company Limited's (Hami, Xinjiang) Hami Dananhu coal and power complex on April 27, 2012.

The Guodian Hami Dananhu coal and power complex is located at the south Gobi of Dananhu Xiang, which is about 80 kilometers from Hami downtown. The complex is mainly comprised of a 15 million metric-ton-per-year coal mine and a 4,000-MW pit-mouth power plant. Two 1,000-MW ultra supercritical indirect air-cooling coal-fired units will be built in Phase I.

Under the mandate of the project owner, Guodian Chengxin Tendering Agent Company Limited (Beijing) issued the invitation for bids for the contract in February 2012. NWEPDI actively carried out the bid preparation based on the objective of building a demonstrative coal-fired power plant in northern China. As various technical and economic indicators of the bidding scheme prepared by the NWEPDI are all of advanced level, the NWEPDI won the bid easily.

Under the background of China's western development strategy, the state government has worked out an overall plan for the transmission of power from Xinjiang and kicked off the ultra-high-voltage transmission project from Hami to Zhengzhou, the capital city of central China's Henan province. The mine-mouth power plant of Guodian Hami Dananhu Coal and Power Complex will be one of the main power sources for the transmission of power from Xinjiang.

The project had received approval from the Development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Autonomous Region to kick off pre-stage preparation in 2011 and has been submitted to the National Energy Administration for approval.

According to the schedule, construction of the project will begin later this year. Both units will be put into operation in the second half of 2014.
