Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In October, China's overall social power consumption reached 513 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), an increase of 5% year over year, which was 2.2 percentage points lower than the previous month. From January through October 2017, China's accumulative social power consumption reached 5,201.8 billion kWh, an increase of 6.7%, which was 0.2 percentage point lower than the same period of the previous year, according to the country's National Energy Administration.
The growth from the secondary industries (manufacturing) has slowed, and the growth in the tertiary industries (services) has maintained a high level. In October, the power consumption in the primary industries (agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, and oil & gas production) reached 8.4 billion kWh, an increase of 3.6% year over year; that of the secondary industries reached 365 billion kWh, an increase of 3%; that of the tertiary industries reached 70.8 billion kWh, an increase of 12.4%; that of the households of urban and township residents reached 68.8 billion kWh, an increase of 8.7%.
From January through October, China's accumulative power consumption in the primary industries reached 99.5 billion kWh, an increase of 7.4%; that of the secondary industries reached 3,628 billion kWh, an increase of 5.7%; that of the tertiary industries reached 736.7 billion kWh, an increase of 10.7%; that of the households of urban and township residents reached 737.6 billion kWh, an increase of 7.6%.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in October China's power output reached 503.8 billion kWh, an increase of 2.5%, which was 2.8 percentage points lower than the growth in September 2017. Of this, the output from thermal power reached 347.5 billion kWh, a drop of 2.8%, which was 2.3 percentage points lower than the previous month; that of hydropower reached 107.9 billion kWh, an increase of 16.9%; that of nuclear power and wind power was up 15.2% and 11.7%, respectively, but the growth was lowered by 6.7 and 25.1 percentage points, respectively; that of solar power was up 35.7%, which was 10.5 percentage points higher than the same period of the previous year.
From January through October, China's accumulative power output reached 5,194.4 billion kWh, an increase of 6% year over year, and the daily average power output reached 16.3 billion kWh. The proportion of nuclear power, wind power and solar power in total power output was 1.1 percentage points higher than the same period of last year. Higher growth in renewable power squeezed the growth space for thermal power. It is expected that the proportion of renewable power in total power output will remain growing in the future, and the overall growth of China's social power consumption will be kept at about 6.5% in 2017, which will be about 1.5 percentage points higher than the previous year.
