Chinese Iron, Steel Firm Expands Capacity to 16 Million TPA with New Factory
The main part of the renovation is to build an all-dimensional high-class rolled-steel product line containing procedures from coking and sintering to cold-rolling and zinc plating.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China's Ma'anshan Iron and Steel Company (MaSteel) (Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province) finished its 5 million-tons-per-annum factory on September 20, 2007, raising MaSteel's capacity to 16 million tons a year.
The completion of the $2.6 billion renovation project, which took two years, also marks the start of renovation projects during the 11th five-year plan (2006-10).
The main part of the renovation is to build an all-dimensional high-class rolled-steel product line containing procedures from coking and sintering to cold-rolling and zinc plating.
The factory covers 3.4 square kilometers while the steel-making area, including two 4,000-cubic-meter blast furnaces, covers only 0.6 square kilometers.
All gases from the factorys coke ovens, blast furnaces and converters can be recycled for reheating and power generating. Other devices are also added to reduce the emission of dust, vapor and steel and iron slag. Recycled energy helps MaSteel to generate 2.5 billion kWh of power, accounting for two-thirds of its consumption.
More details of the new factory construction include expanding a raw-material factory to 45 million tons a year; building two 7.63-meter-tall coke ovens and related coke-quenching devices, as well as a gas purification system to produce 2.2 million tons of coke a year; installing two 390-square-meter sinter machines and related devices to produce 8.3 million tons of sinter a year; installing two 4,000-cubic-meter blast furnaces to produce 6.5 million tons of pig iron a year; building two 300-ton converters and related liquid steel refining devices; installing two 2,150-milimeter, two-strand continuous slab casters, a 2,250-milimeter hot rolling product line, a 2,130-milimeter cold rolling product line and related continuous annealing product line and zinc plating product line to produce 5.85 million tons of liquid steel, 5.67 million tons of continuous casting strand, 5.5 million tons hot-rolled strips and 2.1 million tons of cold-rolled strips a year.
Established half a century ago, MaSteel has been one of Chinas leading iron and steel companies.
