Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) (Beijing) began construction of a natural gas treatment plant in Turkmenistan on June 27. The treated natural gas will be transported from Turkmenistan to China's eastern coastal commercial and industrial centers via a $20.9 billion pipeline network that goes through Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and western China's Xinjiang autonomous region.
Since China is actively seeking clean fuel to reduce its reliance on oil and coal, CNPC agreed to purchase 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Turkmenistan every year for the next 30 years.
CNPC started laying the Chinese section of the pipeline in February. This pipeline will be connected to the Chinese west-to-east gas pipeline, which has a terminal in eastern China.
PetroChina, a CNPC group company, has also signed a 30-year natural gas purchase agreement with Turkmenistan. According to this agreement, PetroChina will purchase 17 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year from Turkmenistan.
