Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). China Petroleum and Chemical Corporations (CNPC) (Beijing) chemical water treatment equipment and ethanol project went into operation in early October. The project is said to be Asias largest.
CNPC, parent company of Sinopec (NYSE:SNP) (Beijing), began the chemical water treatment project in September of 2005 and started to install equipment in August 2006.
Pumps and electric motors began running October 9 and have been under adjustment since then. According to the projects design, the equipment can process 1,350 tons of chemical water every hour at level 1 and 2,150 tons of chemical water every hour at level 2. The desalinated water is used in boilers and other procedures in other sectors of refineries and petrochemical factories. The equipment can also reduce water consumption by recycling condensate from refinery and petrochemical procedures.
The day before the chemical water treatment equipment was put into operation, an ethylene distillation tower, the projects sixth and last super-sized equipment, was installed. The tower weighs 300 tons and is 58 meters tall.
Dushanzi, a subsidiary of CNPC, managed the construction. Dushanzi has a 6 million-ton-per-annum (TPA) refinery, a 220,000-TPA ethanol plant and a 150,000-kilowatt, 1,400-ton-per-hour thermal power plant.
This September, Baotou (Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region), a subsidiary of Shenhua Group Corporation Limited (Beijing, China), invited bids to construct for the 1,000-ton-per-hour chemical water treatment for its coal-to-olefin project.
CNPC started to expand its Dushanzi refinery in March of 2005 and expects it to be complete in 2008.
