Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Coca-Cola Bottling Company United Incorporated (Birmingham, Alabama), through its operating division, Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling Company, recently broke ground on an $80 million production, distribution center and office complex in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Coca-Cola, the nations third largest bottler, is moving forward with plans to replace an existing facility on Airline Highway with a new one on Plank Road by the end of 2008. The new facility will be able to process some 4 million units per day of 8-ounce bottles of its namesake products, which represent an increase of 1 million units per day of current production capacity.
The new complex, on a 120-acre site near the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, will be comprised of multiple buildings and structures with more than 475,000 square feet. The facilities will have a 400,000-square-foot production and warehouse area, 50,000-square-foot office space, 50,000 square feet for vending services and point-of-sale equipment, and a 25,000-square-foot fleet repair garage. The building will be constructed using tilt-up concrete and pre-engineered buildings.
Design and engineering services for the project is being provided by Food Tech Structures (Hanover, Massachusetts). Forcum Lannon Contractors LLC is the general contractor for the building. Forcum has awarded major mechanical, electrical and fire protection packages to subcontractors with the anticipation of hiring trades for concrete, painting, paving and general services related to the exterior of the building.
