Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Columbia's Ecopetrol (Bogota) is moving forward with its ambitious LBCC Project (Baseline Fuel Quality Project), a strategic initiative aimed at modernizing the Barrancabermeja Refinery to produce cleaner and higher-quality fuels that comply with both national environmental regulations and international standards.
The main objective of the project includes reducing sulfur content in gasoline to 10 parts per million (ppm) and increasing octane levels. Wood Group (Aberdeen, Scotland) has been selected to carry out the detailed engineering, while Axens (Paris, France) will serve as the technology licensor for both the HDT and the reformer units.
The project is expected to be completed and fully operational by June 2030. An important aspect of this project is that it incorporates into its scope the HDT unit originated from a previous investment program that Ecopetrol has resumed and integrated into the broader LBCC scope. The updated project also includes the reformer and SHU units, reflecting an expanded strategic vision.
