Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $4.4 billion worth of projects under construction in Colorado. The projects cover a wide range of industrial sectors, with the Power, Metals & Minerals, and Food & Beverage industries all making strong showings.
Among the largest projects underway in Colorado is EVRAZ Group plc's (London, England) steel rail mill in Pueblo, which is being built at the site of the company's former coke plant. The mill will produce 630,000 tons per year of steel rail in 100-meter lengths and is powered by a nearby solar plant. Construction on the facility, which includes a 150-ton electric arc furnace, began in late 2020 and is expected to be completed toward the end of this year. Another large project, this time related to renewable energy, also is underway in Pueblo, where NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) is constructing its 250-megawatt (MW) Neptune solar farm. Engineering, procurement and construction contractor Moss & Associates Construction Company LLC (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) kicked off construction on the project in mid-2021 and is expected to wrap it up this summer. The facility also will include a 125-MW battery energy storage system (BESS) using lithium-ion battery technology. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Power Project Database can click here for the report on the solar farm and click here for the report on the BESS unit.
Nearby in Pueblo, NextEra and Moss are at work on a separate solar project. The Thunder Wolf facility will have a nameplate generating capacity of 200 MW and will feature a 100-MW BESS unit. Construction on both the solar farm and BESS is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here to view the report on the solar farm and click here for the report on the BESS.
Also in Pueblo, CS Wind Corporation (Cheonan, South Korea) is underway with a Phase I expansion of its wind turbine monopile tower manufacturing plant. The project kicked off recently and entails adding 310,000 square feet of space to the 650,000-square-foot building to increase production from 4,000 to 6,000 towers per year. General contractor Burns & McDonnell Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) is expected to complete the project in the summer of 2024. Subsequent phase II and III expansions, which are planned to kick off after the completion of the initial phase, would increase tower production to 8,000 and 10,000 units per year, respectively. Other significant projects underway in the state include Molson Coors Brewing Company's (Chicago, Illinois) expansion of its brewery in Golden. The project kicked off in 2020 and entails constructing a 200,000-square-foot building addition with a new bottling line and related equipment to expand production capacity. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for more information.
The Pharmaceutical-Biotech also is showing strong activity in Colorado. Among the projects under construction in this industry is Lincoln Property Company's (Dallas, Texas) construction of the Colorado Research Exchange (CoRE) life science campus in Broomfield, on the northern outskirts of Denver. The project entails constructing three four- or five-story buildings totaling approximately 450,000 square feet for life science and technology tenants. In addition, a 15,000-square-foot fitness center also will be constructed. The project kicked off last year and is expected to be completed in early 2024.
