Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $4.6 billion worth of industrial projects presently under construction in Colorado. No particular industry shines above others in the state, which shows projects ranging from everything to solar power plants to beverage bottling factories to steel mills.

Construction at steel mills often comes with hefty price tags, and a Colorado project is no exception as EVRAZ Group plc (London, England) repurposes part of its campus in Pueblo into a new steel rail mill. The new mill will make rails up to 100 meters in length, meaning fewer welds along the track, increasing safety and reliability of train operation. Construction kicked off in 2020 but was delayed after a dispute with the original general contractor. Work at the plant now is winding down, and the new mill is expected to begin rolling out product early next year. One of the largest projects underway in the state began construction early last year, with Turner Construction Company (New York, New York) providing general contracting services for owner Agilent Technologies Incorporated (Santa Clara, California). Agilent is expanding its existing facility in Frederick, which is about 30 miles north of downtown Denver, by 275,000 square feet to double the production capacity for therapeutic nucleic acids, which are used to treat a diverse range of diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular illness, and rare and infectious diseases. Construction is expected to last until early next year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for the full report. An addition at the plant already is underway, adding two production trains in anticipation of growing demand. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.

The state's Food & Beverage Industry is dominated by a large project from beverage giant PepsiCo Incorporated (NASDAQ:PEP) (Harrison, New York), which is constructing a grassroot bottling and warehouse facility on a 152-acre site near Denver International Airport. The two-story, 1.2 million-square-foot facility will house 10 manufacturing lines as well as a warehouse automated storage retrieval system to produce products including Pepsi, Pepsi Zero, Gatorade, Propel energy drinks and Muscle Milk. The facility will be PepsiCo's largest bottling plant in the U.S. This first part of the project is on track to be completed early next year. PepsiCo already is considering an expansion of the plant, which would add between 250,000 and 350,000 square feet with new production and packaging equipment to expand capacity. However, this part of the project probably remains some ways away and, should it occur, isn't expected to be completed for around another three years. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can learn more by viewing the reports on Phase I and Phase II of the project.

Power Industry projects are few and far between in Colorado, but a couple of solar farms are on track to go online later this year and next year. Deriva Energy (Charlotte, North Carolina) is expected to bring online its Spanish Peaks photovoltaic plant in Trinidad by the end of this year. Construction kicked off last year, entailing engineering, procurement and construction contractor Juwi Americas' (Boulder, Colorado) placing approximately 300,000 solar panels that will provide 124 megawatts (MW) of power when completed.

Earlier this year, Juwi launched construction of its own solar project near Craig, in the northwest quadrant of the state. The facility will use approximately 350,000 panels to generate 145 MW of power at full load. The plant is expected to go into operation toward the end of next year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Power Project Database can learn more by viewing the reports on the Trinidad and Craig projects.

With the growing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), the market for lithium-ion batteries has skyrocketed, and Amprius Technologies Incorporated (Fremont, California) is hoping to capitalize on this by renovating an existing building to produce lithium ion batteries with Amprius' special silicone anodes, which provides more energy density than graphite anodes. Amprius' planned gigawatt-scale battery plant in Brighton, on the northeastern outskirts of Denver, will produce the company's SiMaxx and lower-energy SiCore lines. The batteries will be used in EVs as well as electric aircraft and drones. The renovation is expected to be completed in the second half of next year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.
