A prime example of this is Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated (NYSE:BRKA) (Omaha, Nebraska). The corporation's website lists more than 60 Berkshire Hathaway companies that cover a wide swath of industries, including energy, manufacturing and food & beverages, among many others. Industrial Info is tracking more than $7 billion in active Berkshire Hathaway projects in eight major industry groups.

Industrial Info is tracking $5.4 billion in active Berkshire Hathaway power projects. Among them is a potential $520 million nitrogen oxides controls retrofit that is under economic evaluation at PacifiCorp's (acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2006) coal-fired, 895-megawatt (MW) Huntington Canyon Power Station in Utah. The retrofit of units 1 and 2 would kick off in late 2019 and see completion in fourth-quarter 2022. The project involves installation of Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises Incorporated's (NYSE:BW) (B&W) (Charlotte, North Carolina) selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units at two Alstom/CE coal tangential/concentric-fired dry bottom boilers in order to comply with emissions reduction rules. Under the manufacturing umbrella, Industrial Info is tracking more than $1 billion in project activity by Berkshire Hathaway, with the lion's share of the investments going to Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railway, which was acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2009. BNSF is planning the $500 million Southern California International Gateway facility at the Port of Los Angeles. The project's fate is uncertain, due to ongoing environmental litigation. The proposed facility would handle 2.8 million container units per year and serve the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Industrial Info is closely following $293 million in Chemical Processing Industry project activity by the conglomerate. Lubrizol (acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2011) is planning a polybutene unit expansion at its fuel additives and compounded products plant in Deer Park, Texas. Jacobs Engineering is serving as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider. Construction is expected to begin in July this year, with completion in October 2019. Food & Beverage Industry projects total $264 million. Chief among them is McLane Company's (acquired by Berkshire Hathaway in 2003) planned $93 million food distribution center in Juno, Florida. Urban Design Kilday Studios (West Palm Beach, Florida) is serving as the architect for the 386,000-square-foot-facility.
