Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Harris County, Texas, home to Houston and its surrounding area, is set to see $3.99 billion in industrial project starts and completions in second-quarter 2019. The projects include terminals, chemical unit additions, distribution centers and more. Thanks to a large airport project, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with $1.89 billion in planned second-quarter starts and completions, leads in terms of project value.

Project Starts
Among the largest projects planned to kick off in Harris County in the coming quarter is the replacement of Terminal D at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The existing 20-year-old terminal will be demolished and a new 780,000-square-foot terminal with 15 gates capable of handling wide-body aircrafts will be built. Austin Commercial (Dallas, Texas) and Gilbane Building Company (Houston) are the joint-venture construction managers. The $1.5 billion project is expected to be completed in 2024. In Seabrook, Texas, Odfjell Group (Bergen, Norway) plans to kick off construction on a terminal to export ethylene and natural gas liquids (NGLs). An existing ethane terminal will be modified to include a refrigerated storage tank. The expected loading rate is 750,000 tons per year of ethylene. Magellan Midstream Partners (NYSE:MMP) (Tulsa, Oklahoma) and Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) plan to expand an ethanol and petroleum products terminal in Pasadena. The project entails constructing 10 tanks for a total of 4 million barrels of storage. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $75 million. A number of distribution center projects are planned to start or wrap up in the quarter. Among those planned to start is Ikea North America Services LLC's (Conshohocken, Pennsylvania) distribution center in Houston. The facility will be built in a 4,000-acre business park and will be 1.2 million to 1.5 million square feet. McCord Development Incorporated (Houston) is the real estate developer. Project Completions
Among the largest projects set to wrap up in the quarter is Enterprise Products Partners LP (NYSE:EPD) (Houston) and Navigator Holdings Limited's (London, England) ethylene export terminal in La Porte, Texas. The project involves demolishing existing crude oil tanks and related infrastructure to export ethylene and NGLs. The facility will have a refrigerated storage capacity of 30,000 tons and a loading rate of 1,000 tons per hour. Construction began last summer, with Black & Veatch Incorporated (Overland Park, Kansas) and PCL Industrial Construction Company (Katy, Texas) providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). Lubrizol Corporation (Wickliffe, Ohio) is wrapping up a polybutene unit addition at its facility in Deer Park, Texas. It will be the third polybutene unit at the plant, which currently produces 91,000 metric tons per year. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC) (Dallas, Texas) is providing EPC on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $100 million. Construction kicked off in the summer of 2017. Valero will wrap up upgrades to a 65,000-barrel-per-day fluid catalytic cracker unit at its Houston Refinery. The project entails modifying the main fractionation column and replacing reactor and regenerator internals to improve performance and increase product yield.
