Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). To help replace a generation of older inefficient power generating units that companies like American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) (Columbus, Ohio), TXU (NYSE: TXU) (Dallas, Texas), and Texas GenCo (NYSE:TGN) (Houston, Texas) are shutting down due to the fact that they are no longer economic to operate, a slew of power plant project development is underway by Private Energy Producers (PEP), Municipal Utilities, and Industrial Energy Producers (IEP). These companies are in the process of installing about 1,800 megawatts (MW) of new generation with about 13% of that being renewable resources (Wind).
Two of the municipalities, Brownsville Public Utility Board and Bryan Texas Utilities (Plant 1000017 & 1024887) (PEC 01009333 & 01009050) are each installing greater than 45 MW of natural gas-fired peaking units (combustion turbine/generator sets). Austin Energy is installing a 400 MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle intermediate load power plant (Plant 1048946) (PEC 01008633).
Two PEP's are installing 900 MW of natural/gas-fired combined-cycle of units (Plant 1043281 & 1053849) (PEC 01007582 & 01008320), including Wise County Power LLC, a subsidiary of Tractebel Power Incorporated (Houston, Texas) and Deer Park Energy Center LP, a subsidiary of Calpine Corporation (NYSE:CPN)(San Jose, California).
Cielo Wind Power LLC Austin, Texas is installing 160-240 MW of wind power (Plant 1059070) (PEC 01009094) for intermediate load use. The IEP, ExxonMobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM) (Irving Texas) is installing 780 MW of base load power at two locations (Plant 1001585 & 1012964) (PEC 01009190 & 01006776).
