Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the awarding of the main construction contract to Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company Limited (Hangzhou, Zhejiang) in late December 2012, the construction of Huaneng Changxing Power Plant's 1,320-megawatt (MW) relocation and expansion project kicked off on December 28, 2012, according to an announcement from China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing) on January 5, 2013.
The project is located in Changxing County of Huzhou City, in East China's Zhejiang province, which is adjacent to Lvshan Port in the south and is about 9.5 kilometers from the existing Huaneng Changxing Power Plant and about 13.5 kilometers from downtown Huzhou City. The plant plans to build two 660-MW, ultra-supercritical, coal-fired units, together with flue gas desulfurization and denitration devices, in a new site to replace two existing, 135-MW, coal-fired units in the former Huaneng Changxing Power Plant in the initial stage. The total investment in the project will be about $800 million.
The project is invested by Huaneng International Power Limited (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Huaneng Group (Beijing). Zhejiang Electric Power Design Institute (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), another subsidiary of the CEEC, is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. The turbines, generators and boilers main equipment have been awarded to Harbin Electric Corporation (Harbin, Heilongjiang) and Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai, China), respectively.
As a key energy project listed in the 12th Five-Year (2011-15) Plan of Zhejiang province, the feasibility study report for the project passed an examination held by the General Institute for Electric Power Planning and Design in January 2011 and received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration in December 2011.
According to the schedule, both units of the project will begin operations in June 2014. With the adoption of the latest thermal power technology in China, various parameters of the project will maintain leading position in China. Upon completion, the project will play an important role in promoting energy conservation and emission reduction; improving environmental quality; and promoting the local economic development in northern Zhejiang province.
