Construction of Wangting Power Plant 60 MW Renovation Project Kicks Off in Jiangsu

This marks that the construction of one 600-megawatt (MW) ultra supercritical coal-fired unit in the renovation project of the Wangting Power Plant was officially started. The Wangting Power Plant is an important power plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, with a current installed capacity of 1,100 MW. The renovation project is built based on the mode of “replacing small units with large unit”. In order to fully carry out the national policy on energy conservation and emission reduction, the No. 12 and No. 13 Units operated in the plant have been dismantled since April 27, 2007. China Huadian Corporation has firmly established a scientific development view, and has been insistent on the principle of “attaching equal importance on development and conservation, with higher priority on conservation.” Official start of the renovation project is just a substantial result of this policy, said President Cao Peixi at the ceremony.

The implementing of the Wangting Power Plant 60 MW Renovation Project has very important meaning on further enhancing the power generation capability, improving the grid stability in Jiangsu Province, and alleviating the load pressure as well as the power shortage in Suzhou and Jiangsu grids. Construction of the project also marks that Jiangsu has reached a new milestone on improving enterprise’s scientific and technological levels, energy conservation and environment protection levels as well as enterprise’s sustainable development, said Deputy Governor Li Quanlin at the ceremony.
