Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--Contour Global (New York) subsidiary Contour Global Brazil (Sao Paulo, Brazil) inaugurated the first wind turbines at its AsaBranca Wind Complex in Parazinho, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, on September 25.
The complex comprises five windfarms: AsaBranca IV (32 MW), AsaBranca V (32 MW), AsaBranca VI (32 MW), AsaBranca VII (32 MW) and AsaBranca VIII (32 MW). Construction required an investment of approximately $317 million.
The windfarms are equipped with 100 wind turbines of 1.6 MW each, provided by General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), for a total installed capacity of 160 MW.
Even though the windfarms were officially inaugurated on September 25, the company is awaiting the completion of construction on the Joao Camara III substation to begin commercial operations. Completion is scheduled for January 2015.
