Contractor Selected for Tenaska's Illinois IGCC Power Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Tenaska Incorporated (Omaha, Nebraska) has chosen Kiewit Energy Company to perform engineering, procurement and construction for its planned 770-megawatt coal-gasification facility in Taylorville, Illinois.

The $3.5 billion project, located in Christian County, consists of two integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) CT/HRSGs and one steam turbine. The gasification process will convert coal into gas, achieving a much lower emission level.

The engineering firm, Burns & McDonnell (Kansas City, Missouri) will perform plant design and cost estimates while WorleyParsons will act as engineer.

Construction is scheduled for 2010 with completion expected in 2013-14.

Christian County Generation LLC was formed as a joint venture between Tenaska and MDL Holdings Company (Louisville, Kentucky) to own and operate the plant.
