Creekstone Farms Plans to MOOOve More Cattle through its Kansas Beef Processing Plant

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated Houston, Texas). Family-owned and operated Creekstone Farms Premium Beef LLC (Arkansas City, Kansas), is planning an expansion project at its beef processing plant in Arkansas City to double the amount of cattle the company moves through the plant.

To meet growing the growing demand for the company's all-natural beef products, plans are coming together to increase the number of cattle processed at the plant by expanding the slaughterhouse and supporting facilities to handle 2,000 head per day.

Plans call for a greater than $13 million, 65,000 square foot building addition and the installation of a new kill floor and carcass handling systems to break down the cattle into Premium Black Angus Beef patties, deli meats, pot roasts, and marinated fresh beef for restaurants and supermarkets.

The company selected Schmeeckle Brothers Construction (Fort Morgan, Colorado) as the general contractor for the project and plans to begin mobilizing staff, subcontractors, and construction equipment to the site in late July to start construction.

The project is expected to take about twelve months to complete, and the company plans to hire an additional 150 employees to support the 650 already working at the plant.

Creekstone Farms produces Premium Black Angus Beef and has one of the few branded programs certified by the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). This certification requires that USDA graders at the plant examine each raw product to assure that it meets Creekstone Farms' Premium Black Angus Beef quality and certification standards.

The 400,000 square foot plant was acquired by Creekstone for $28 million in January of 2003, when former plant operators, Future Beef Operations LLC, filed for bankruptcy in August of 2002.
