POWER
Kemper Power Plant Could Burn Gas Only - After years of delays and billions of dollars in cost overruns, Mississippi regulators on Wednesday called on Southern Company (NYSE:SO) to work up a deal that would have the Kemper integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant fueled only by gas, rather than coal gasification. The state Public Service Commission said in a statement that it's looking for a solution that eliminates the risk to ratepayers "for unproven technology." (Bloomberg)
CRUDE OIL
Oil Rises from 10-Month Lows - Oil rose on Thursday, a day after hitting 10-month lows, but market sentiment remained negative because the global crude glut has persisted despite OPEC-led output cuts. Brent crude futures ended 40 cents higher to $45.22 a barrel. U.S. crude futures ended up 21 cents a barrel at $42.74 a barrel. (Reuters)
PIPELINES
Demand to Ship Gasoline on Top U.S. Pipeline at Six-Year Low - This year, so much fuel is stored in tanks in the U.S. Northeast that Colonial Pipeline Company said in a notice to customers that demand from refiners and fuel traders to bring gasoline through its pipeline to the region from refining hubs in the South was the worst in six years. (Reuters)
NATURAL GAS
U.S. Natural Gas Supplies May be Headed for Lows - U.S. natural gas inventories may reach 3.4 trillion cubic feet by the end of October, the lowest since 2008 for the time of year, according to a report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance. That's about 10% below the five-year average for the period. (Bloomberg)
PRODUCTION
Oil Sands Producers Still Developing Projects - This Bloomberg article discusses how producers in Canada's oil sands are still investing in projects despite the high extraction costs of the region. (Bloomberg)
FINANCIAL
Crestwood, First Reserve Venture Picks Up Swath of Delaware Basin Assets in Permian - Crestwood Equity Partners LP (NYSE:CEQP) (Houston, Texas) and First Reserve Corporation (Greenwich, Connecticut) recently announced that their joint venture, Crestwood Permian Basin Holdings LLC, now owns all of Crestwood's Delaware Basin assets, following its acquisition of the Willow Lake Cryogenic Natural Gas Processing Plant and related assets in Eddy County, New Mexico.
