Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Dominion Virginia Power's commitment to bringing 400 megawatts (MW) of solar energy to Virginia through 2020 is on track with the recent completion of three large-scale solar projects in three Virginia counties: Isle of Wight, Louisa and Powhatan. Dominion Virginia Power is a subsidiary of Dominion Resources Incorporated (NYSE:D) (Richmond, Virginia).

The 19-megawatt (MW) Woodland Solar in Isle of Wight, the 20-MW Whitehouse Solar in Louisa County, and the 17-MW Scott Solar in Powhatan County, all located in Virginia, all recently achieved commercial operations following their completions by Dominion Virginia Power and AMEC Foster Wheeler.

The completion of these large utility-scale solar projects adds a combined output of 56 MW to the company's growing solar fleet. Dominion has other solar projects that are pending regulatory approval in Virginia to meet its 2020 goal: the 20-MW Remington Solar Facility in Fauquier County, and the 17.6-MW Oceana Solar Facility in Virginia Beach. The completion of these three large-scale solar projects can generate enough to power more than 50,000 homes and businesses.

The three large-scale projects have a combined total investment value (TIV) of $131 million. Dominion Virginia Power engaged AMEC Foster Wheeler plc (NYSE:AMFW) (London, England) as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The projects created more than 800 jobs at peak construction, and each qualifies for the U.S. solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC). Dominion Virginia Power will own and operate the new facilities.
