Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions (DESS), a nonregulated commercial brand of Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina), has acquired the Pike Solar project in Colorado from juwi Incorporated (juwi Americas) (Boulder, Colorado)--a North American subsidiary of global solar-power developer JUWI (Woorstadt, Germany). Industrial Info is tracking two solar projects at plants owned by DESS, and $791.5 million worth of projects from JUWI in the U.S.
The Pike solar plant is expected to generate 175 megawatts (MW) of electricity, utilizing more than 414,000 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, according to a related press release. The power generated will be provided to Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU), which serves customers near Colorado Springs, under a 17-year power purchase agreement.
JUWI will remain responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the project, while DESS will be procuring the solar panels. Both companies "will each have operation and maintenance responsibilities." The plant is "under construction, with current activities focused on civil work and racking installation, and is scheduled to achieve commercial operation in late 2023."
