Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) said Thursday it has completed two solar-power projects in Florida with a combined generating capacity of 150 megawatts (MW).
Duke Energy Florida's High Springs and Hildreth solar plants both feature 74.9 MW of solar generation at peak production and will utilize 216,000 and 220,000 photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, respectively, on a single-axis tracking system. "With a combined investment of over $2 billion, Duke Energy Florida's solar generation portfolio will include 25 grid-tied solar power plants that will benefit all of the company's 1.9 million Florida customers," the company said in a press release. "These projects will provide about 1,500 MW of emission-free generation using approximately 5 million solar panels by 2024."

These projects support Duke Energy's plan to reach a 50% reduction in carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2030, and net-zero emissions by 2050.
Among Duke's other solar projects is the 175-MW $288 million Pike solar plant in Calhan, Colorado, which the company acquired from juwi Incorporated (juwi Americas) (Boulder, Colorado) earlier this year. The plant is expected to utilize more than 414,000 PV panels, according to a related press release, and the power generated will be provided to Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU), which serves customers near Colorado Springs, under a 17-year power purchase agreement.
