Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $7.5 billion worth of industrial projects under construction in Florida. Thanks in large part to several distribution and warehousing projects, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry leads in terms of overall project value, with nearly $3 billion worth of projects under construction.

The Distribution and Warehousing segment accounts for more than $1.6 billion in projects underway in Florida, and it should come as no surprise that leading the pack in this buildout is e-commerce giant Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington), which boasts no less than a dozen projects underway in the state. Among the largest of these undertakings is Project Mango, a four-story, 2.8 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Tallahassee. The facility will feature 49 dock doors and will include 100,000 square feet of office space. Construction kicked off in 2021 and is expected to wrap up in the near future. Outside of Amazon's buildout of its Florida facilities, other companies constructing distribution centers include FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee), which is underway with its Project Rocket in Panama City. The project entails constructing a 251,000-square-foot grassroot distribution facility that will serve as the company's regional distribution headquarters. The project kicked off in late 2021 and is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here for the full report.

A Food & Beverage project makes it into Florida's top five projects by value. Atlantic Sapphire USA (Miami, Florida) is underway with a Phase II expansion of its fish aquaculture facility in Homestead. The project includes building more than 330,000 square feet of new structures, including 500,000-gallon grow-out tanks, a research and development center, and supporting equipment to increase salmon production from 10,000 tons per year to 25,000 tons. Construction kicked off in 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for more details.

Solar energy is arriving in Florida in a big way, with two of the country's leading power developers, NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) and Duke Energy Corporation (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina), constructing a series of solar generating facilities, each with a capacity of about 75 megawatts (MW), throughout the state. Among NextEra's projects is a solar facility in Pensacola that will use approximately 300,000 solar modules on a single-axis tracking system to provide nameplate generating capacity of 74.9 MW. Construction is expected to be completed this summer.

Duke's projects include the 74.9-MW Winquepin Renewable Energy Center near Lee, between Tallahassee and Jacksonville. Engineering, procurement and construction contractor M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) recently began construction, and the facility is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
