Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) subsidiary, Duke Energy Gas Transmission (DEGT) (Houston, Texas) is putting the finishing touches on a new 32-mile section of 20 diameter natural gas transmission pipeline. DEGT is constructing the 32-mile lateral pipeline to connect its East Tennessee Natural Gas, LLC pipeline system to CNX Gas Company, LLCs existing Cardinal States Gathering System. The pipeline originates at an existing CNX compressor station near Richlands, Virginia on the Virginia/West Virginia border and will interconnect with DEGTs existing East Tennessee Natural Gas, LLC pipeline system near Marion, Virginia.
DEGT had received its FERC Certificate on February 8, 2006, and awarded the construction contract for the Jewell Ridge pipeline lateral to H. C. Price Company (Dallas, Texas). Construction on the pipeline began on May 8, 2006, with a completion and in-service date scheduled for late September 2006.
Once complete, the Jewell Ridge pipeline will provide an initial capacity of 235 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of capacity and will add additional capacity to transport natural gas production from the Appalachian region to new markets in the Southeast. The Jewell Ridge pipeline lateral will also expand Southwest Virginias existing energy infrastructure and increase the areas opportunities for economic development. Some areas in Virginia will have access to natural gas for the first time.
