Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Dutch Energy Company Eneco Holding NV (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) has started construction of 12.5-megawatt (MW) Molenbaix Herinnes windfarm in northwest Belgium. Due to be developed with an investment of 32.5 million the project will spread over 160 hectares of land near Molenbaix commune in the Wallonne region of the country. The windfarm is slated to commence commercial operation during the first quarter of 2015.
Eneco Wind Belgium SA, a subsidiary of Eneco Holding NV, has awarded the equipment contract to German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex (FWB: NDX1) (Hamburg, Germany). As per the terms of the contract Nordex will install a total of 5 "N100" wind turbine generator (WTG) sets of 2.5 MW each.
Eneco released an Expression of Interest (EoI) for selection of equipment supplier for the project in 2013. The company entered into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Belgium's Public Utility Electrabel SA (Brussels), a subsidiary of GDF Suez SA (EPA:GSZ) (Paris) for the sale of power from the plant for a period of 20 years from the date of commencement of power generation.
Eneco Belgium will be responsible for the execution of the project, while Nordex is responsible for operation and maintenance of the plant for a period of five years from the date of commencement of generation. Once commissioned, the wind power station will produce 30 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity per year, which could supply power to more than 7,300 households in the region.
Nordex is Germany-based Wind Turbine Manufacturer founded in 1985. Nordex has installed about 5,600 wind turbines for a total capacity of around nine gigawatts around the world.
Eneco, headquartered in Rotterdam, is a leading player in the energy market of Belgium. The company has an operational power generating capacity exceeding 155 MW, while another 75 MW is in various phases of development.
