Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ecuador's state-owned power station, Termoesmeraldas, plans to take international bids for a turnkey contract to add 150 megawatts (MW) of generating capacity to existing facilities. The investment is estimated at $150 million for the generating equipment, plus $40 million for a transmission line along Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas provinces.
The expansion will consist of eight 18-MW internal combustion engines, with construction planned to begin early next year. According to plant officials, the construction of the new facility would take no more than 18 months.
Currently, Termoesmeraldas is equipped with a single 132-MW steam turbine manufactured by the Italian firm Franco Tosi Meccanica (Legnano). The unit has been undergoing maintenance since late June and is expected to come back online in September.
