Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Électricité de France SA (Paris, France) has begun the scheduled shutdown of Unit 1 at the Saint Alban Nuclear Power Plant, located near the Rhone River near Lyon. As part of its 2024 industrial program, the unit was disconnected from the national electricity grid to start essential maintenance and renewing a third of the reactor's fuel.
Among the activities planned are the cleaning of steam generators to prevent iron oxide buildup and the replacement of self-locking devices on primary circuit pump motors to ensure safety. These maintenance activities are critical for optimizing plant performance and safety. Approximately 5,000 tasks will be carried out, supported by more than 800 EDF employees and nearly 70 partner companies, totaling more than 1,600 workers on-site. Following the successful shutdown of Unit 2 earlier this year, EDF is focused on ensuring the smooth execution of this shutdown.
