Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--EDF Renewables North America (EDF Renewables) (San Diego, California) and Canadian Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:CSIQ) (Guelph, Ontario) have signed a multi-year agreement to supply the renewables developer with solar panels (modules) to be produced at Canadian Solar's manufacturing plant in Texas that is under construction. Industrial Info is tracking $5.5 billion worth of projects from Canadian Solar and its subsidiaries in the U.S., and $32 billion worth from EDF in the U.S.

According to a press release, under the agreement, Canadian Solar will supply up to 7 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels from its $250 million solar module manufacturing plant in Mesquite, Texas, between 2024 and 2030. The plant will have an initial capacity of 5 GW, and the panels will feature the company's Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) solar cell technology, in which energy is generated from both the front and the rear of the solar cell.

Construction kicked off in May, and production is expected to start in the fourth quarter. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here to read a detailed project report.

"We are excited to work with EDF Renewables North America as we bring a stable supply of clean and reliable solar energy to the U.S. market, powered by solar modules made locally, under the backdrop of the Inflation Reduction Act. We look forward to further collaborations and investments contributing to a more global, sustainable, and resilient clean energy supply chain," Chief Executive Officer Shawn Qu said in the press release.

Among EDF's projects in Texas is the proposed $600 million Sandow Lakes Ranch solar facility in Rockdale, which would utilize more than 900,000 PV panels for 385 megawatts (MW) of solar generation. Construction is expected to kick off in January 2024, with completion by the end of the year.

Also expected to kick off in the first quarter of 2024 are the 270-MW Bullhead solar-plus-storage project in Bakersfield, California, which would feature a solar plant and a battery-energy storage system (BESS), and the 255-MW Livingston Windfarm in Pontiac, Illinois. The projects are expected to wrap up in May 2025 and December 2025, respectively. Subscribers to the GMI Power Project Database can see detailed project reports for the Texas, California and Illinois projects.

Although Canadian Solar manufactures solar panels and related technologies, its wholly owned subsidiary Recurrent Energy LLC develops, owns and operates utility-scale solar and energy-storage projects across the globe. Industrial Info is tracking projects attributed to Recurrent Energy, including two that are expected to kick off in August 2024: the Hummingbird solar-plus-storage project in Fleming County, Kentucky is expected to feature a 200-megawatt-peak solar facility and a BESS with up to 200 MW of storage capacity, and the Blue Ridge solar plant in Virginia would be able to generate 150 MW of solar power. Subscribers can read reports on the Kentucky and Virginia projects.
