Emgasud Inaugurates Cañada Honda Solar Park

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Emgasud S.A. (Buenos Aires, Argentina) recently inaugurated the first phase of the Cañada Honda solar park in the Argentinean province of San Juan.

The park is 60 kilometers south of the city of San Juan, in Sarmiento county. In Phase I, a total of 25,116 photovoltaic panels manufactured by Atersa (Madrid, Spain) were installed, which will deliver a generating capacity of 5 megawatts (MW) to the national grid.

The construction kick off for Phase II of the solar park is scheduled for March 2013, with an estimated investment of $31 million. It will have a generating capacity of 5 MW.

Emgasud also plans to construct the Chimbera Solar Park, which will be next to the Cañada Honda facility. The construction is planned in three stages for a total capacity of 10 MW, with an estimated investment of $58 million.

Emgasud will perform site preparation for the Chimbera park. The start of operations for Phase I is scheduled for May 2013, when Emgasud plans to install the photovoltaic panels from Atersa. According the schedule, Emgasud will launch a tender in August this year to select the equipment supplier for phases II and III.

Cañada Honda and Chimbera projects are expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2014. When operational, they will have a total photovoltaic generating capacity of 20 MW.

Emgasud is evaluating proposals to select a major contractor for the Puerto Madryd windfarm in the Argentinean province of Chubut. This project is planned to be built in five phases and will have a capacity of 220 MW.
