Empire Green Biofuels Sells New York Ethanol Plant Assets to Cilion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Start-up, investor-owned Empire Green Biofuels, Incorporated (Newark, New York), has sold the assets on a planned new fuel ethanol plant in New York to Cilion, Incorporated (Goshen, California). Empire had been developing an ethanol plant in Seneca County since 2001, and recently had all the up-front paperwork in place to move forward, going as far as to select Delta-T (Williamsburg, Virginia) to provide process technology and T.E. Ibberson (Hopkins, Minnesota) to build the plant.

Cilion will now provide its own process technology and to date, it is not clear who will build the $80 million plant. Once financial aid is secured with the Seneca County Industrial Development Authority and a public hearing scheduled for later this month proves favorable, construction could start as early as this spring.

Plans are to construct a 50 million-gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will process 20 to 24 million bushels of corn annually. The plant will be located on former Seneca Army Depot grounds located near Romulus, New York.

Construction is expected to take fourteen to eighteen months to complete and the plant could be operational as early as August of 2008.

Currently there are two fuel ethanol plants under construction in New York. Northeast Biofuels is building a 100 million-gallon per year plant at the former Miller brewery in Fulton that is expected to be completed by late 2007 and is already talking about expanding. Western New York Energy is building a 50 million-gallon per year ethanol plant in Medina that is expected to be complete in March of 2008.

Two additional plants are in the works for Buffalo and Rochester and Cilion also has additional plans to build an ethanol plant in the Caledonia area starting mid-year.
