Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Enbridge, Incorporated (NYSE:ENB)(Calgary, Alberta) is planning to spend an estimated $11 billion in capital expenditures for North America between the beginning of 2006 and the end of the decade. The majority of the 30 planned projects currently being tracked are concentrated in the liquids and natural gas pipeline sectors representing $10 billion in possible spending. A large portion of this figure represents diluted bitumen pipelines originating in the Alberta oil sands patch and the large crude oil pipeline projects designed to transport the upgraded bitumen to the Pacific coast of Canada and to markets in the U.S. like Illinois and as far south as the PADD II region entrance of Cushing, Oklahoma.
In the natural gas sector, the heaviest concentration of capital spending will be centered in Texas and Louisiana, as well as further work on the Neptune offshore pipeline system. In Texas, Enbridge plans to focus on the construction of new processing facilities and large pipeline projects designed to transport increased production volumes to existing markets. In Louisiana, Enbridge is examining the possibility of constructing a large diameter cross state pipeline to deliver natural gas produced in Texas to markets in Mississippi, as are several competing companies. The current trend in Texas seems to be focused on the gas production in the Barnett formation and being the first to produce and export it before the importation of foreign LNG begins to impact the scene beginning in 2008 and ramping up in 2009 and 2010.
