Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Power provider Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana) is making great strides toward expanding its generating and transmission infrastructure in its service areas in Texas and Louisiana. Among the projects on the table are natural gas-fired power plants in both states and transmission projects in Texas.

In the second quarter, Entergy completed one of its major natural gas-fired projects: the Saint Charles Power Station in Louisiana. Construction on the 980-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facility began in mid-2016, with McDermott International Incorporated (NYSE:MDR) (Houston, Texas) providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services. In the company's second-quarter earnings conference call, Entergy Chief Executive Officer Leo Denault said, "In May, we completed the St. Charles Power Station. This modern CCGT went into service ahead of schedule and on budget. It will supply reliable, clean energy to Louisiana's customers to help support the growth the state is experiencing." For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

The company is underway with other natural gas-fired projects. Among these is the Lake Charles combined-cycle power station, also in Louisiana. Construction on the project began in late 2017, with McDermott providing EPC. It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year. The facility, which is being constructed on a brownfield site near an existing power station, will have a generating capacity of 994 MW. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $871 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Entergy also is underway with a combined-cycle project in Montgomery County, Texas, north of Houston. Construction on the 993-MW facility began late last year and is expected to take about three years to complete. The facility will use Mitsubishi combustion turbine generators and steam turbine generator. The project has an estimated TIV of $937 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Entergy also is underway with a repowering project at its natural gas-fired Washington Parish Energy Center in Louisiana. The project entails replacing older simple-cycle units to generate 360 MW. The $300 million project kicked off earlier this year and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2021. Zachry Group (San Antonio, Texas) is providing EPC. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Among other projects completed in the second quarter was Phase I of Entergy's Western Economic Region Transmission project in Texas. More remains to do on the undertaking, including construction of additional transmission lines and substations, some of which have already begun construction. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on: Those projects are expected to be completed in the second half of next year.

In East Texas, Entergy is soon to kick off its Hartburg-Sabine Junction transmission project, which has an overall TIV of about $130 million. The project is expected to take several years to complete.
