Entergy Louisiana Prepares for Steam Generator Replacement at Watford Nuclear Power Station

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Preparation is under way at Entergy Louisiana LLC's Waterford Three Nuclear Power Station in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, for two steam generator replacements that will begin this fall on a 1,152-megawatt Siemens Turbine that is powered by an Alstom (ENX:ALO) pressurized water reactor. Entergy Louisiana is the Louisiana utilities division of Entergy Corporation (NYSE:ETR) (New Orleans, Louisiana).

The estimated $515 million project was scheduled for an earlier time but was delayed due to a manufacturer and fabrication problem. Refueling activities also will be performed during the replacement process, including reactor head inspection; pressurizer inspection; materials and handling maintenance; controls modifications; and valve, pump and condenser repairs. The unit became operational in 1985.

URS Corporation (NYSE:URS) (San Francisco, California) and The Steam Generating Team (Charlotte, North Carolina) are the selected contractors for the project, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
