Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of Guodian Luanhe Power Generation Company Limited's (Chengde, Hebei) Luanhe Power Plant Phase VI expansion passed a 168-hour, continuous, full-load trial operation and was handed over to end users for commercial operations on October 24, 2012, according to an announcement from the construction contractor, China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), on October 29.

During the trial operation, all thermal protection and electrical automation devices were put into operation. Various technical indicators of the unit are rated at an "excellent" level. The maximum vibration measured at the steam turbine shaft is 46 micrometers, and the tightness test result is 0.16 kilopascal per minute.

The Guodian Luanhe Power Plant was built in 1958 and was assigned to China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) during the national electric power reformation performed in 2002. Prior to the commissioning of Phase VI, the power plant had a total installed capacity of 860 MW in operation, including two 100-MW units built in phases III and IV, and two 330-MW units of Phase V, commissioned in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Early in 2009, China Guodian Corporation decided to build two additional 300-MW units by shutting down the small, coal-fired units built in phases I and II, including 12-MW and 25-MW units built in Phase I, and two 50-MW units built in Phase II. In November 2009, the last two units of the five built in phases and II were shut down. However, only one unit received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission.

Construction of the first unit in Phase VI was officially kicked off in August 2010. Following the completion of boiler water pressure, energizing of plant service power, boiler ignition for piping flushing, the unit was successful connected to the grid the first time on September 26, 2012. Through nearly one month of commissioning, the unit was finally put into commercial operation on October 24, 2012.
