Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 7 of Huaneng Shaanxi Qinling Power Generation Company Limited's (Weinan, Shaanxi) Qinling Power Plant Phase IV expansion passed the 168-hour, full-load, continuous trial operation on December 26, 2011. During the trial operation, various operation parameters and economic and technical indicators of the unit were rated at the "excellent" level. Both the desulfuration and denitration devices were commissioned along with the main unit, which then was handed over for commercial operation, according to an announcement from Huaneng Shaanxi Power Generation Company Limited (Xi'an, Shaanxi), a regional subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (Beijing), on December 27.
The Huaneng Qinling Power Plant, which is at the northern end of the Qinling Mountain Ranges, about 13 kilometers west of Huaying City, was built in 1969 with two 125-megawatt (MW) units. After years of expansion, four more 200-MW units were commissioned in 1986. The power plant then became the first large-scale thermal power plant in northwest China, with an installed capacity of more than 1,000 MW. However, the power plant gradually became inefficient due to aging. In responding to the nation's policy to replace small units with larger ones to promote energy conservation and emission reduction, China Huaneng Group decided to build two 600-MW, supercritical, indirect air-cooling units in Phase IV in 2008. The two 125-MW units that were built in Phase I were shut down in June 2008. The first 600-MW unit then received final approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in December 2009.
Construction of Unit 7 began in January 2010. The unit features a 179.8-meter-high "3 in 1" tower, which integrates cooling, flue gas discharge and desulfuration. The project also is furnished with the first integrated 750-kilovolt main transformer in China.
Presently, the project owner is working with project designer Northwest Electric Power Design Institute (Xian, Shaanxi), engineer Northwest Power Construction Group (Xian, Shaanxi), and construction and installation contractor Henan No.2 Construction Group for the second 600-MW unit.
