Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of China Resources Power Holdings Limited's (00836.HK) (Hong Kong) 700-megawatt (MW) Panjin Cogeneration Power Project passed the 168-hour, continuous, full-load trial operation and began commercial operations on April 13, 2014, according to a recent announcement from project contractor Henan No. 2 Thermal Power Construction Company (HTPC2) (Zhengzhou, Henan).

During the trial operation, the unit had an average load rate of 95.7%; the shaft vibrations of the steam turbine generator were less than 60 micrometres; the vibration in all thrust-bearing segments was less than 18 micrometres; and the thermal and electrical protection, as well as the automation devices, was fully operational. The flue gas desulfurization and selective catalyst reduction NOx controls were commissioned at the same time, with a desulfurization rate at 97.8% and NOx control efficiency at 81.6%, sulfur dioxide emission density at 17.6 milligrams per cubic meter, and nitrogen dioxide emission density at 91 milligrams per cubic meter. Various indicators of the unit were rated at sound levels.

The China Resources Panjin Cogeneration Power Project, located in Xinli Town, Xinglongtai District of Panjin City, has a planned capacity of 700 MW. Two 350-MW, supercritical, coal-fired units, with associated heat supply pipeline works, will be built for a total investment of about $480 million in Phase I.

In September 2012, HTPC2 won the erection contract for both units through public bidding. Construction of Unit 1 kicked off on November 25, 2012. The project set a record for the fastest construction period (16.5 months) for a 350-MW supercritical unit in an extremely cold area.

Northeast Electric Power Design Institute (Changchun, Jilin), a subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consultancy Corporation (CPECC) (Beijing), is responsible for the design and engineering of the project. The main turbine, generator and boiler equipment for the project was supplied by Harbin Electric Corporation (Harbin, Heilongjiang).

Presently, HTPC2 is working closely with relative parties for the erection and commissioning of Unit 2. According to the schedule, Unit 2 will begin operations in June 2014.
