Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Cooperative-owned First United Ethanol, LLC (Camilla, Georgia) has broken ground on the first commercial-scale fuel ethanol plant that will be located in Camilla, Georgia. Dubbed as the largest biofuel plant in the Southeast, plans call for the creation of a nameplate 100 million-gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that will process 36 million bushels of corn annually into the renewable fuel. The corn will come from local Georgia farms, but the company will have to import corn from other states to meet the feedstock requirements of the plants appetite for corn.
Construction costs to build the plant are approximately $170 million.
Biofuel plant development in Georgia has been slow due to the fact no one has figured out how to make ethanol out of peanuts, peaches or onions; however, a cellulosic-based plant is in the planning stage and will be located in Augusta, along with two other corn-based facilities in Abbeville and Jesup. Biodiesel plants are in the works as well that will be located in Bainbridge and Sandersville.
Industrial Info's Ethanol Production Database provides a comprehensive outline of all current development activities in the emerging synthetic fuels market. This database covers 134 ethanol plants currently in operation and 348 plants under development. It also covers 32 operational biodiesel plants and 81 biodiesel plants under development.
