Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Florida Gas Transmission Company (FGT) began construction in August for its $452 million phase V expansion project. The expansion encompasses the addition of 167 miles of new pipeline, of which 91 percent is along existing right-of-ways, and the addition of 132,615 horsepower of compression, including three new compressor stations. The construction is taking place in Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
When the majority of phase V is completed in April 2002, the system capacity for transporting natural gas will increase by 428 million cubic feet per day to a total of over 2.1 billion cubic feet per day. The majority of this new capacity is contracted to seven electrical generating facilities utilizing environmentally friendly natural gas as a fuel type. FGT's phase V expansion comes on the heels of its $268 million phase IV expansion completed in May of 2002. A $105 million phase VI is scheduled to be developed next and has been filed with the FERC for 2003.
FGT is a subsidiary of Citrus Corp., which is jointly owned by El Paso Energy (NYSE:EP) (Houston, Tx) and Enron (NYSE:ENE) (Houston, Tx). FGT owns and operates a 4,700-mile dual pipeline system stretching from Texas to Miami, Fla., with a present capacity of just over 1.7 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas.
