Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $6 billion in projects involving construction firm Gilbane Building Company (Providence, Rhode Island). The projects cover a range of geographies and industrial sectors, including Industrial Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical-Biotech, and Food & Beverage.

One of the largest projects involving Gilbane is the replacement of Terminal D at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas. This sizable undertaking involves demolishing the existing terminal and constructing a new 780,000-square-foot facility with 15 gates and two new piers capable of handling 15 wide-body aircrafts. Parking facilities also are being constructed. The project has been underway since 2019 and is expected to wrap up in 2024. Gilbane is acting as construction manager. In addition to air travel, Gilbane has a hand in naval undertakings in the form of General Dynamics Corporation's (NYSE:GD) (Reston, Virginia) submarine and shipyard manufacturing plant expansion in Groton, Connecticut. The project entails the construction of the 200,000-square-foot South Yard Assembly Building and a new floating dry dock to facilitate construction of the U.S. Navy's new Columbia-Class submarine, a nuclear submarine designed to replace an existing class of ballistic missile submarines. This project also got underway in 2019 and is expected to be completed next year. Subscribers can click here for the project report.

The number of Pharma-Biotech projects involving Gilbane is testament to the company's expertise in this sector. At the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut, Gilbane is underway with construction of an approximately 230,000-square-foot LEED-certified space that will include 50,000 square feet of wet and dry lab space, a core lab space, a clean room, an auditorium, undergraduate teaching labs and administrative space. Construction kicked off in 2020 and is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Pharmaceutical-Biotech Project Database can click here for the project report.

In Chicago, Illinois, Gilbane is underway with Sterling Bay's (Chicago) "Lincoln Yard" research and development lab building. Construction on the eight-story, 320,000-square-foot building began last year and is expected to be completed in early 2024. The facility is designed to lease space to multiple life science and technology-related research and development firms. Subscribers can click here for the project report.

While Gilbane's footprint in the Food & Beverage sector is smaller than in Pharma-Biotech, the company nevertheless has some notable projects, such as leading gummy candy manufacturer Haribo GmbH & Company's (Bonn, Germany) first North American plant in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, between Chicago and Milwaukee. The 487,400-square-foot grassroot facility will include a three-story production facility and attached two-story office and warehouse. Groundbreaking occurred in 2020, and Haribo hopes to begin production from the plant in 2023. The facility could eventually accommodate expansions. Subscribers can click here for the project report.
