Summary

Google Incorporated this week made two significant power purchase agreements from solar projects in Ohio and Arkansas, where the company has data centers undergoing active construction.

New Google PPAs

Google Incorporated (Mountain View, California) this week made power purchase agreements (PPAs) with solar developers Treaty Oak Clean Energy (Austin, Texas) and TotalEnergies (Courbevoie, France) that will help offset the power consumed by Google's Ohio and Arkansas data center facilities.

Arkansas

One of Google's PPAs was made with Treaty Oak Clean Energy for power from the solar developer's Redfield solar project in Grant County, Arkansas. With engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company Primoris Renewable Energy (Aurora, Colorado) kicking off construction earlier this year, the 100-megawatt (MW) solar farm is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.

Google is just getting started on the first building of a potential $4 billion hyperscale data center complex in West Memphis, Arkansas, which as suggested by the name, lies just across the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tennessee. In a groundbreaking ceremony held last month, Google executives noted that the company's commitments for the plant included a graywater facility to reuse water to cool equipment, alleviating pressure on water resources, as well as the addition of solar power to the grid. Subscribers to Industrial Info's GMI Project Database can learn more by viewing the related project reports.

While the PPA constitutes a solar addition, Google announced in early October that it had made arrangements with Entergy Corporation (New Orleans, Louisiana) to provide the primary power for the plant from a 600-MW solar project, although Industrial Info doesn't expect construction on this facility to begin before 2027, putting it on a track for a 2028-29 completion, whereas the Treaty Oak project is already underway and expected to be completed in less than year from now. Ohio

Google's PPA in Ohio was made with French energy major TotalEnergies, which on its website claims to have 10 gigawatts of solar, wind and battery storage installed or under construction in the U.S.

Those solar plants include the 49-MW Montpelier solar farm, located on a 500-acre site in Williams County, in the northwest corner of the state. The EPC contractor started construction on the plant this summer, putting it on track for completion by the end of this year. Subscribers can click here to learn more about the project. Google has agreed to purchase 1.5 terawatt-hours of the plant's output over a 15-year period.

While the agreement is not Google's only power agreement involving Ohio facilities, the 49 MW provided by the Montpelier plant will constitute only a small portion of the power used by Google's Ohio operations. In an October 2, 2025, article, New Ohio Rules Help Rein in Power Demand from State's Data Center Pipeline, Industrial Info noted more than $61 billion worth of active data center projects in the state, with Google being a key player.

In Ohio, Google has operational data centers in New Albany and Lancaster, where construction continues, and is underway with construction on one in Columbus. None of the facilities, which are all in central Ohio, are in close proximity to the Montpelier plant, but Google has designated the solar plant's output specifically to offset its Ohio data center operations.

Google is underway with a sixth (280,500 square feet) and seventh (170,500 square feet) building at its New Albany facility, while at its Lancaster facility, general contractor Holder Construction Group (Atlanta, Georgia) is underway with buildings with 2 and 3 (280,000 square feet and 175,000 square feet, respectively.) The Columbus building currently under construction is expected to be completed in the coming months. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the related project reports.

Key Takeaways
  • Google signed a PPA for 100 MW of power from Treaty Oak's Redfield solar project in Grant County, Arkansas, that will provide power for a Google facility in the east of the state.
  • Google signed a PPA with TotalEnergies for power from the 49-MW Montpelier solar plant, which is under construction in northwestern Ohio.
  • Google is underway with construction at three Ohio data center locations, two of which have begun operations.
