Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Argentina is positioning itself as a key player in the development of green hydrogen projects, one of the most promising energy sources for the transition towards a more sustainable future. Currently, Industrial Info is monitoring a total of US$3.16 billion in investments in Argentina, distributed across 24 green hydrogen and derivative projects, with the expectation that 50% of them will begin operating by 2030. These projects are not only a bet on clean energy, but also on job creation, technological development and global market leadership.
One of the most relevant projects within this landscape is the Gaucho Project, being developed by RP Global (Vienna, Austria), which will be located in the province of Santa Cruz, in Argentine Patagonia, and will be dedicated to the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia using wind energy and the electrolysis process. RP Global plans to implement the project in stages until 2030 and it will be located at two different sites: Puerto Deseado and Punta Quilla. In terms of production, Gaucho will generate around 0.62 million tons of green hydrogen per year and 3.51 million tons of green ammonia, representing a significant advance for the Argentine energy sector.

In a regional context, green hydrogen is gaining ground in several Latin American countries. Brazil leads the region with 78 projects underway, followed by Chile with 50 and Argentina with 24. Despite the competition, the sector is booming, and the region seems to be increasingly committed to the energy transition. At the global level, green hydrogen is destined to play a key role in the fight against climate change, and Argentina, with its natural resources and innovation capacity, has everything to become a major player, which will open new doors for its economy and sustainable development worldwide.
