Huber Engineered Woods Awaiting Greenlight for OSB Mill in Georgia

More than a year after the initial announcement to build an oriented strand board (OSB) plant in Georgia or South Carolina, Huber Engineered Woods, a unit of family-owned J.M. Huber Corporation (Edison, New Jersey), is still moving at a steady pace towards breaking ground early next year. In the meantime, the company released the location of the new $200 million plant at an industrial park in Swainsboro, Georgia and contracted Mid-South Engineering (Hot Springs, Arkansas) to assist with quotes for several turnkey packages. Plans are to complete the capital appropriations request by November for final board approval in December.

Presently, construction on the 650 million square feet per year plant may begin as early as next spring and come online in late 2008. A partial list of potential firms being considered for the Swainsboro OSB plant, include AMEC (Atlanta, Georgia), Andritz (Muncy, Pennsylvania), and Casey Industrial (Broomfield, Colorado).
