Iberdrola Begins Construction of Cogeneration Power Station in Queretaro, Mexico
Construction has started for the San Juan del Río power station project in Mexico.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iberdrola Generacion Mexico SA de CV (Mexico City, Mexico), with its subsidiary Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion Mexico SA de CV (Mexico City), has begun site preparation for the construction of a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle (NGCC) cogeneration power station. The facility will be located about 2 kilometers southeast of the municipality of San Juan del Río in the central Mexican state of Querétaro. The estimated investment for the project is $80 million.
Iberdrola has picked Tamoin Mexico, SA de CV (Mexico City, Mexico) as the engineering, procurement and construction provider for the project. The configurations will consist of a one-on-one 60-megawatt, NGCC cogeneration unit utilizing one GE 6F.01 combustion turbine generator set with heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) driving an extraction condensing steam turbine for the production of electricity.
The power station will provide enough energy for about 40,000 homes, which will significantly help meet the forecasted energy demand for that immediate region. The facility also will produce 40 tons per hour of steam for neighboring industrial facilities.
The project is estimated to create about 120-150 site preparation and construction jobs. About 15-20 permanent positions will be created for labor security, operation and maintenance.
The power station is expected to begin full operations by the end of 2017.
