Iberdrola Plans Construction of Solar Power Stations in Puebla, Mexico

Iberdrola Renovables Norte SA de CV plans to build a new solar photovoltaic power station in Puebla, Mexico, in two phases. The total estimated value is roughly $300 million

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iberdrola Renovables Norte SA de CV (Distrito Federal, MX) plans to build a solar photovoltaic (PV) power station in Puebla, Mexico, in two phases: The first in the Cuyoaco municipality, and the second in the Ocotepec municipality. The total estimated value is roughly $300 million.

The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider has not yet been chosen for either phase. However, Iberdrola likely will be responsible for the entire project.

Each phase of the solar PV station will consist of a fixed-tilt mounting system consisting of 84 polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules, each with a capacity of 1.2 megawatts (MW), over an area of about 200 acres. The two facilities will be about six kilometers apart. Each phase will produce 100 MW of renewable energy.

When completed, the PV power station will enable Puebla to be less dependent on imported energy. The station will generate enough electricity for about 55,000 homes, including commercial and industrial sectors.

The solar PV project would be be Iberdrola's first in Mexico. It is expected to create about 400 site-preparation and construction jobs. About 15 to 20 permanent positions will be created for labor, security, operation and maintenance of the power station.

This project, however, is in its very early planning stages; both phases are expected to begin construction in mid-June 2018. Both are slated for full operations by the end of 2019, if all goes as planned.
