Acquisitions Beget Acquisitions? -Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (Omaha, Nebraska) has purchased Precision Castparts Corporation (NYSE:PCP) (Portland, Oregon) for $32 billion. An aerospace and energy parts supplier, Precision Castparts itself has been on an acquisition frenzy as of late, announcing last week that it would be acquiring Noranco Incorporated (Pickering, Ontario), an expert in aerospace parts machining, for $560 million.

Mining
New Mine Ramping Up in New Brunswick - Trevali Mining Corporation (Vancouver, British Columbia) recently completed construction and first shipment of zinc concentrate in July 2015 at the Caribou Zinc Mine in northern New Brunswick. The project, first reported by Industrial Info in 2012, represents a restart of operations at Caribou, which had been shuttered since 2008. The company also plans to add a paste backfill plant at some time in the future.

New Mine Construction - In one of the few new mining projects for the U.S. mining sector, Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE:NEM) (Denver, Colorado) has begun construction of a new mine in Nevada. The $300 million Long Canyon Gold Mine will be a surface mining and heap leach processing operation. The mine is expected to be operational by the first half of 2017.

Aluminum/Fabrication Plant Expansion - Pennex Aluminum Company (Leetonia, Ohio) has completed a $38 million plant expansion at an aluminum extrusion and fabrication plant in Leetonia, Ohio. The plant supplies the automotive industry.
