Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Due to a high demand for fertilizers in India and a delay in announcement of a new fertilizer policy for urea by the government, a majority of the fertilizer producers in India are making huge investments in phosphatic fertilizers by adding units at existing facilities or building grassroot plants. This is primarily to the meet the country's current demand.
There is a high demand for urea and ammonia, as they are the basic fertilizers for almost all types of crops. However, due to a high investment in setting up new units, a delay in a new policy, and a shortage of gas, fertilizer producers are moving on to different options.
Phosphatic fertilizers are primarily single super phosphate, granulated single super phosphate, triple super phosphate, di-ammonium phosphate, ammonium phosphate and beneficiated rock phosphate.
Considering the current scenario, fertilizer giants Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Limited (NSE:524230) (Mumbai, India), Chambal Fertilizers Limited (New Delhi, India), Madhya Bharat Agro Limited (Rajasthan, India), Coromandel Fertilizers Limited (BSE:506395) (Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh), Indo-Gulf Fertilizers and Chemicals Corporation Limited (Mumbai, India), Zuari Industries Limited (BSE:500780) (Goa, India), India Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (New Delhi, India) have proposed investments totaling $1.3 billion for setting up production units in India that would produce approximately 3.02 million tons per year of phosphatic fertilizer.
More business opportunities are developing for the mining industry, including imports. Feedstock rock phosphate is produced more in the western region of country, and imports are primarily from Jordon, Morocco and Syria, due to the quality of the rock phosphate. Some companies also have started importing feedstock from Peru. The western region of India is ideal, because it is feasible to set up a phosphatic complex due to the easy availability of feedstock and the attached sea port, where rock phosphate can be imported.
