Indian State Telangana Aims for 51 GW of Renewable Energy by 2035

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Telangana government has unveiled an ambitious draft renewable energy policy targeting 51 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2035. This includes 34 GW of solar energy (ground-mounted, rooftop and floating), 4.5 GW of wind, 2.5 GW from hydropower, and 10 GW from energy storage solutions such as battery and pumped-storage systems. The policy underlines efficient project timelines, with a two-year completion target post-allocation and provisions for penalty-backed extensions

The state also aims to attract US$23.8 billion in investments and create over 114,000 jobs by promoting its green energy framework. With a peak electricity demand forecasted to double by 2035, this robust strategy positions Telangana as a leader in sustainable energy development.

To attract private investments, the policy offers minimal lease costs for government land and incentives for agricultural land conversion to renewable energy projects. Additionally, government-owned rooftops, water reservoirs and public buildings will be utilized for solar installations. Rural and urban renewable projects are incentivized through tax exemptions and reimbursements, ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Further measures streamline approvals via the The Telangana State Industrial Project Approval and Self-Certification System (TS-iPASS system), including exemptions from Pollution Control Board No Objection Certificates (NOC) and reimbursement of water charges for solar facilities. Telangana TRANSCO (Hyderabad) and distribution companies (DISCOMs) will oversee the technical feasibility of proposals to maintain implementation efficiency.
