Indorama Builds Thailand's Third Purified Terephthalic Acid Plant

Indorama Synthetics, Limited (Jakarta, Indonesia) has begun preliminary engineering for a 600,000 metric ton per year grassroot Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant to be built in Map Ta Phut, Thailand. Construction will commence in early 2004 with completion and commissioning planned for early 2007. Indorama's plant will be the third PTA plant to be built in Map Ta Phut, Thailand. The investment for the new facility is estimated at approximately $400 million. The PTA produced at the plant will be utilized to manufacture polyester for the textile industry.

Indorama began operations in 1976 and has grown to a sizeable company that employs over 8,000 people. With manufacturing facilities all over the world, Indorama produces 3,000 tons a year of spun yarns, 240,000 tons a year of polyester, which consists of PET resins, staple fibers and filament yarns, 38,000 tons of spun yarns and 25 million meters of polyester filament fabrics. Indorama produces specialty products with high quality tenacity, differential shrinkage, microfilament cationic and stretch.
