Researched by Industrial Info Resources Incorporated (Sugar Land, Texas)--In August, Industrial Infos research staff provided new reports for 91 capital and maintenance projects planned or underway in North Americas Chemical Processing Industry (CPI). These projects equaled a combined total investment value (TIV) of nearly $3.6 billion in project investments with 79 of those projects, or $894 million, identified and reported for the very first time. In addition to the new reports released last month, the status for an additional 375 projects previously reported were updated to reflect their current status of either complete, on hold, canceled or active.
Some of the largest new activities added to Industrial Infos project database for the first time was also identified in United States Southwest. Air Liquide America Corporation (Houston, Texas) has invested heavily in recent years to produce additional hydrogen capacity for petroleum refiners and joins a group of others with plans for even more potential capacity in Texas. Their Pasadena, Texas, Bayport site is among the possible locations for another hydrogen unit within the next couple of years. Another major new project identified includes plans by Air Products and Chemicals Incorporated (Allentown, Pennsylvania) for a major air separation plant in or near Beaumont, Texas, to support plans by Eastman Chemical Company (Kingsport, Tennessee) for a coal-gasification plant planned to begin construction in 2009.
The number of new projects identified each month for the CPI has consistently increased in recent months, reinforcing the industrys positive outlook for the coming year and beyond. Construction starts for major expansions and additions are taking place at record paces even despite shortages in labor and materials. Look for the release of Industrial Infos 2008 Industrial Outlook in October for an even closer look at this industry and what to expect in the coming year.
