In Wentzville, Missouri, northwest of St. Louis, GM is expanding its truck and vans assembly plant at a project price tag of more than $1 billion. The project entails constructing a 150,000-square-foot expansion with a new paint department and expanded body shop to allow GM to make the "next generation" of Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-sized pickup trucks. The facility also manufactures the Chevrolet Express and the Savana full-size van. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. John Deere equipment manufacturer Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) (Moline, Illinois) also is getting in the state's manufacturing action with an upgrade and consolidation project at its plant in Springfield. The engine remanufacturing plant is having new drivetrain and hydraulic remanufacturing equipment added. While the move is meant to consolidate operations from Edmonton, Alberta, the Missouri Department of Economic Development says the expansion will create 130 new jobs at the plant.
