Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Following the June 16, 2007 operation of the 600 MW coal-fired Unit 8 in Dalate Power Plant of North United Power Company Limited (Inner Mongolia, China), a subsidiary of China Huaneng Group (Beijing, China), the total installed capacity of China Huaneng Group has surpassed 60,000 MW and reached 60,130 MW, the first company to do so in China. China Huaneng Group has achieved sound and fast development since it was established in 2002. China Huaneng Group originally planned to increase its installed generation capacity to 60,000 MW by the end of the eleventh five-year plan (2006-2010). It took two years for China Huaneng Group to increase installed capacity from 40,000 MW to 60,000 MW, which is more than two years ahead of the schedule.
By the end of May 2007, China Huaneng Group owns 87 power plants in 23 provinces (cities or autonomous regions). Business income in the first five month of this year reached $5.34 billion, an increase of 29.23% compared with the same period of the previous year; coal consumption in power supply is reduced to 339.59 g/kWh, a reduction of 4.66 g/kWh compared with the previous year. By the end of May 2007, China Huaneng Group has completed the shutdown of 49 small thermal units with an installation capacity of 1,400 MW. In the first five months of this year, 3,322.9 MW of new units were put into commercial operation.
China Huaneng Group has paid great attention to power source structure adjustment during its development. The group has insisted on the development of large capacity, high parameter and highly efficient as well as clean coal generation technology. The construction speed and management has reached a new level. Since the first 1,000 MW ultra supercritical coal-fired unit in China was put into operation at the Huaneng Yuhuan Power Plant, the group currently has eight 1,000 MW ultra supercritical coal-fired units in operation or under construction.
China Huaneng Group has made great achievements in the development of hydropower and other renewable new energies such as wind power. By the end of May 2007, China Huaneng Group had 15 hydropower stations in operation with a total installation capacity of 3,502.6 MW.
China Huaneng Group also achieved new progress in capital operation. Based on the guideline of attaching equal importance to development and acquisition, China Huaneng Group enhanced investment through acquisition to expand its scale. China Huaneng Group is now the second largest shareholder of Guangdong Yuedian Group (Guangdong, China), one of the largest local power producers in China. China Huaneng Group also strengthened investment in the support industries such as coal, railway, port and navigation, to ensure its energy supply. A strategic layout integrated with power, coal, and transportation has been basically established.
